                August 29 – September 2nd

Language Arts/Reading:
This week we will finish our Nursery Rhyme Unit and begin putting it together as a book.  You will see your child’s book during Parent Orientation Night. The students will continue to identify and classify rhyming words.  We have been practicing with “Read to Self.”  Each table has a book box with books to choose from.  We are learning how to read in one spot of the room, stay quiet, and how to choose “good fit” books.  This week we will build up our “Read to Self” time to about 10 minutes.  We will also begin Writer’s Workshop.  This week, we will focus on how to pick a topic, sketch it from an image in our minds, and write the whole idea.
Reminders:
*PLEASE sign up for a classroom volunteer position…your help is always appreciated!!

*Please send a healthy snack with your child EACH day to eat during recess.

*Parent Orientation Sept. 6 (more info coming)

Math:
We will continue working in our math notebooks by reviewing basic problem solving.  We will also continue learning about bar and picture graphs and how to collect data for each using tally marks.  At the end of the week, we will begin learning about telling time, starting with telling time to the hour.  Telling time will continue into the following week, too.

Social Studies:
This week we will go more in depth about leaders.  We will discuss our community leaders as well as our state and national leaders.  The kids will make a mobile depicting these leaders and their names.
